My name is Joan Convine Khwaka, a former student in Amboseli Institute of hospitality and technology, the home of quality education and excellence. I joined Amboseli Institute on 5th Jan 2016 to pursue a course in hospitality management for two and a half years. The experience that I got from Amboseli Institute of course could not imply that I did not have to face my share of discomfort and challenges but it’s these challenges that made me a stronger and more confident person today. Every little encounter and the experiences I gained in Amboseli Institute were enriching and will remain within my memories for a life time.
Amboseli institute was truly my second home, since I met some amazing people and friends too. After my first year of study I was attached at Agha khan Hospital Nairobi in 2017 for 3 months. I had experience in various departments; Housekeeping and laundry, Food production, Food and beverage service, Stores and Front office.
After my first attachment I sat for an International exam ICM level one. After my second year I was attached at Mara Entrepids Tented Camp in 2018 for 3 months. While I was in my second attachment I specialized mostly in Front office department having realized that I had better experience than in other departments from my first attachment. From all that I had encountered from Amboseli institute I was able to complete my course on 3rd august 2018. I therefore believed I was an excellent student and graduated on 19th October 2018. My journey in Amboseli Institute taught me how to be an excellent student, while in school I participated in school games and received different rewards. I also had a chance to represent group 1/16 in cake baking and we were always the best. Having being lucky I found a Front office job at Indiana Beach Hotel in Mombasa. It’s now been one and a half years, and the hotel industry is the best.
I would like to extend my gratitude to the college for the quality education. I am thankful to the management and staff for their dedicated efforts in offering quality education to the students throughout the course duration. Finally I take this opportunity to wish the college continued success.
I would inspire the younger generation to pursue a career in hospitality; you only need to be honest, focused and determined, which should be accompanied with hard work which gives you success in life.
To conclude just keep in mind “excellence is detail, if you pay attention to the detail excellence will come”
This the spirit of determination you endured in this journey. Its an inspiration to those who are yet to walk this journey…
You are a great product of Amboseli…
Wish you well Joan.
