I started my career at the Amboseli Institute of Hospitality and Technology in January, 2016. I started off with a Certificate in Food Production which went on for 15 months, then after completion I advanced to Diploma level in September 2017 which went for 10 months.
My first attachment was at Kongoni Lodge in Naivasha, where I got to learn about plating skills and proper menu planning. It being my first Industrial based attachment, it wasn’t quite easy at first for me. My colleagues were friendly and they shared knowledge about production and engaged me in challenging tasks. Thanks to Amboseli Institute’s training I was able to handle these tasks with ease because of the knowledge instilled in me by my practical and theory lecturers.
My second attachment and the best was at Mara Serena safari lodge in Maasai Mara park. I got to work with 5-star class chefs who were very generous with information and friendly. At Serena, I also got the chance to go for game drives at the park and also, we had outdoor services like bush dinners, sun downers, lunch at the bush, hippo breakfast and hot air ballon breakfast, star light which I enjoyed serving at.
I got my first job at Brook house school, Karen in September 2018 and it is where I work up to date. I landed my first job even without papers because I hadn’t graduated yet but I had finished school and I was awaiting graduation the next month. I was interviewed orally and practically and my employer got contented and surprised with how much knowledge and skills- set I had. I later graduated the next month in October the same year.
My experience in Amboseli was the best because, I was active in class, participated in school activities like deejaying at the schools’ events among others. I was free with all the lecturers and the subordinate staff and this made my stay in Amboseli smooth. My hard work at school landed me like being sponsored by the school to dine at big hotels like Sarova ,tour Kempinski, sent out to the best lodge and hotels for attachment.
I am proud to have chosen Amboseli Institute of Hospitality and Technology as my school to pursue my career. Thanks to Amboseli Institute I am now partially living my dream of working in the hospitality industry and am now ready to use the skills set and knowledge I got from Amboseli to open up my various hospitality based businesses.
