It was my dream to become a hotelier and most importantly a professional chef and Amboseli Institute gave me that and more. I joined Amboseli Institute in the year 2011, class 04/11 to pursue a career in Hospitality. I undertook Certificate course in food production. I knew my way around the kitchen but my culinary experience with this great Institution was mind blowing. I’m from a humble background and honestly I was not sure if I will make it through due financial struggles. I clearly understood that the path I chose was not meant to be easy but it was to grow me to the person I have become today. After nine months I proceeded for my Internship at The Panari Hotel Nairobi with the help of the school’s management.
I hold a high regard for Madam Beatrice Gesora who was the Deputy Principal at the time, she constantly challenged and encouraged me to push and stay focused. My training at the Panari was a success and three months later I returned to school for Diploma in food production. Within no time I proceeded for another internship at The Sarova Whitesands Beach Resort and Spa Mombasa. My return to school was not because the financial status had gotten better, it was because Amboseli Institute made me realize the fear was only in my head, they taught me to be brave.
After my internship at The Sarova Whitesands Beach Resort and Spa, they employed me as a casual cook due to my tremendous skills and hard work. I served there for one year and I do not have enough words to explain the culinary skills I learned and strengths I had developed. I decided to develop myself further and so I searched for another job in the marketing industry. I wanted to diversify and earn more skills and experience. I am sure that there are people out there who the words “five star experience” feels like it is for the rich, I wanted to inspire others to pursue their dreams without limitations.
I am now serving at the Amboseli Institute of Hospitality and Technology as a marketer and receptionist since the year 2015. It has been a great honor giving back what was given to me, facilitating career conversations with the young dreamers and passing on the encouragements. I see the younger me in others and I motivate them to keep moving forward. There is no experience like awakening dreams and helping others discover their potential.
I am also a first year business student at the Kenya Institute of Management. I do not intend to stop unleashing every greatness in me as I help others do the same. I’m not only about learning without unwinding, I run a YouTube channel called “FransheeFix” in which I share my yoga practice. In her book “You Are Born With Greatness,” Sr Nancy Watenga says, ”Being brave in life doesn’t necessarily mean the absence of fear; greatness is all about being afraid but going ahead to do what needs to be done anyway.”
I have been blessed to come across amazing mentors throughout my journey; Great appreciation to Md. Rose Kibe who has constantly challenged me and encouraged me to keep going further. Special thanks to the Directors of Amboseli Institute of Hospitality and Technology; Md. Jennifer Koome and Md. Hellen Kibe for your endless support and zeal .Thank you.
